Starting/Running problems
I have a 73 360 engine in a 74 truck and have been having troubles latly. engine will start and run rough until warmed up, Once motor has been run for about 10min or driven for a little wile and you shut it down the engine will not refire, until you move the distributer and then maybe it will refire.
Have changed the coil checked for power good, have changed the points set good. Timing chain replaced about 2.5 years ago.
I am thinking the dis mybe worn out have never changed it since i have owned the truck. when you have the motor running and move the dis around it makes no change until you move it drasticly.
Any help would be greatful.

Try wiggling the wires around instead of moving the dist. Once you get it running, try to set the timing and lock the dist down. I can't think of any reason moving the dist would have in making it not start, except a wiring problem.
If you want to troubleshoot, when it won't start, pull a sparkplug wire off and put a screwdriver up in the end. Hold it by the plastic handle and put the metal part close to the block. Get someone to turn it over. You should see a spark jump to the block. If you suspect the dist to be worn out, take the cap off and grab the rotor and wiggle it side to side. If it moves a lot, the bushings are worn in the dist.
If you have spark, take the aircleaner off and while looking down the carb with the truck off, push the accelerator linkage to wide open. You should see two strong streams of gas pouring into the engine. If you don't, you have a fuel problem.

Thanks for the help,
Forgot to metion I had this problem before I replaced the points and it seem to go away for a while then it comes back again. The way I figured out that it was the points that when the motor was warmed up and it would not restart I took the cap off and opened up the points and let it close and turned the key and it fired right up and ran fine.

Investigate worn bushings in the dist. That would make the point opening very inconsistent.
Also check the wire that goes from the coil to the points. This is a special wire that is very flexible. It has to be because the points move around in the dist all the time because of the vacuum advance moving the point plate. In rare cases this wire can break internally, giving an intermittent connection. Pull on the wire, and if it stretches anywhere along it's length, it's broken inside the insulation.
