Automatic Shifter stuck

Automatic Shifter stuck

I have a 97 E Super Duty motorhome. This weekend I parked for a few minutes, came back and the shifter would not move into drive. We were in a remote area so I had to wrench the arm on the side of the transmission into drive so we could leave. The transmission will shift into reverse, neutral and drive but will again stick into park if put there. I changed out the brake switch and found that as soon as I touch the brake petal it blows the 15A fuse. I put the old switch back in and the same thing happens. I cleaned out the tail lights...same.
I have never had any problem with this unit in the past. Can anyone help with this?

Sometimes if you wiggle the steering wheel it will move.This sounds like the parking paw inside the trans is bent somehow.As for the blowing of the fuse thats a short in the wiring somewhere.you need a wiring diagram for your vehicle to trouble shoot it fully.

Just for future reference....usually if you turn the ignition key right before your accesories come on, you can move the shifter out of park. Then you can start it in neutral and be on your way. As for the fuse blowing cant help you much with that, is the wires at the switch ok, I have seen lots of them break.

If it has Cruise Control, check the wires that attache to the CC module on the front of the brake master cylinder. This was the big recall this summer. Mine did it this summer and that was the culprit, the CC brake release sensor shorted out and kept blowing my fuse, which wouldn't allow me to shift out of park. That sensor burned up while my truck was parked overnight, almost caught my whole truck on fire. Fortunately, it didn't. Unfortunately, I was camping and it was Labor Day weekend, I was stuck until the dealership opened up. I then found out that all I had to do was just disconnect the wires form the sensor, replace my fuse, and I could have driven home.
