just a couple of questions, first what kind of battery does my bronco take?, 1983 with a 302, i got one from the dealership which was bxt-56 i think is the number on it. Second, after connecting it up, the solenoid sparked at me and then started smoking before it stopped and now i have no power at all to anything, any ideas?
Any automotive battery rated with enough CCA to start the engine should work. Any battery retailer should be able to look up an exact replacement size and amperage rated battery.
Make certain that you wired the positive terminal to the solenoid and the negative to the frame of the truck. If you reversed them or had the battery in backwards you will most likely need to replace at least the solenoid on the inner fender before things will work again.
pay a little more and get an optima battery whenever you have the choice, you'll never need to buy another. If your main power cables are in poor condition just pay a few bucks and replace ALL of them, the piece of mind is well worth it.
