now i think i am right when it comes to this but whenever you dissconnect the negative on the battery you reset the comp? Do you also reset the codes to if so?

Some operations such as idle and shifting, if "learned" by the ECM, are reset when the power is removed (depends on the vehicle and if such learning strategy exists), and yes on the code erase, assuming you leave the cable off for a sufficient amount of time.
*Some older vehicles have no operations that the computer "learns"; in those cases the answer to the first question would be no.
