Another Leaky Windshield
I saw another post on a leaky windshield and I didn't want to hi-jack, so: The PO had his buddy install a new windshield, and he thought the trim went on after, not before. So now I have a bundle of perfect trim, with the connectors, and the windshield is leaking on the passenger side. I want the trim so should I just have the Auto-Glass specialists come over for $125, or should I try it myself? I don't want to bust the glass and I don't have a reliable helper. Is this a one-man job? Also, should I get new rubber, or hope that the rubber is good, install the trim, and hope for the best? I don't want to have to do it again next month! The rubber looks really good, it's actually almost new, no cracks or anything; I was just thinking that with the trim installed, it would have expaned just a wee bit more and prevented the leak. Also, this is my daily driver, and I can't have any downtime. Any input on windshield replacement appreciated.

I had one put on my '72 last yr, and I noticed the installer used a lot of WD 40. do you think if you juiced that rubber real good, that the chrome would slip in? It is a one man job if you know what you are doing, but I think two would be good insurance. Especially if you are going to save the old one and reinstall it.

I guess the trick is pull it out and put it back it in (the windshield, I mean). I tried putting the trim back on gently trying to tap it back in with a dead-blow, but it's just way too flimsy, and this trim is nice. I called the glass place, and they said no problem but that it would cost that much. I don't want to mess it up and dent the trim all too hell just to find out that I shouldn't have even tried 'cuz it's too impossible. I don't want this to be another "learning experience", I've had plenty of those on my trucks.
