Fix one problem, cause another...

I decided to fix a few things under the dash and got around to the wipers.

I upgraded to the intermittent setup and had no high speed, just low and intermittent. I put 12volts to the high speed wire and the wipers went into high speed.

So I took apart the switch, it had dirt and sand in it so I cleaned it and put it back together. I used regular u-joint greese on the ball bearings and it worked great. I've got high speed and low speed, but no intermittent.

I read the book and decided to test the switch output. I used a multi-meter set to ohms (horseshoe symbol), this is where it got strange

When I have the multi-meter connected, the intermittent wipers work! If I turn off the multi-meter or switch to another test the wipers stop working.

Is this because the mulit-meter is acting like a resistor during the test? Did the greese cause the switch to screw up, clog up the rhostat or resistor or whatever it is? Should I use dielectric greese?

thanks
