Tailgate?

Is it possiable to get the tailgate down with the handle broke? I was wondering because my handle is broke, and I can't remove my tail light to replace the burnt bulp and I didn't want to break it so I was wondering if there was a screw hidding in there where the tail gate door is latched.

You didnt specify what year your truck was but on my 90 there is panel that is on the inside of the tailgate that gives me access to the rods. You squeeze them together and it opens the tail gate.

the tailgate is the same from mid 80s to mid 90s there should be a panel on the inside of the tailgate take 10 bolts out and the rods are right there and maybe you would want to replace the handle to
