Light problems

I give up!

I can't find why my passenger vanity mirror, glove box light, cigarette lighter, ashtray light doesn't work. All wires are good. The fuses are all present and working. No stuffed foil a la. But on the left top, there is a blank slot for a fuse. Is this normal? I couldn't make out the white lettering on it.

I get no power from all four of those accessories. It's not a big deal, but I like it when everything works.

And since I have the light group, shouldn't there be a hood light? I found a green/yellow wire hanging off on the passenger side around the A/C suitcase area.

BTW. This is an '79.

Yes all green/yellow wiring is courtesy lighting

Does your Dome light work?

RE Inside: Did you check the wiring harness from right side over the left side behind cluster.
That's where the original hook-up harness is.
A big Yellow connector with either 2 or 3 connection holes in it.

Top left hmmm.

Check the illustration here Jerm.

The blank top left is for the aux. fuel tank solenoid...I don't have that. So, yes, it's normal in my case.

Yes, the dome light works fine. The map lights on the light dome also works. Every light works except what I listed.

I got the cigarette lighter to work after changing out the whole socket. The old one's contacts were rusted bad and the lighter was crusted with ashes. Now, it gets red hot with a new, shiny socket and lighter!

Ashtray, glove door, vanity mirror doesn't work. Grr. I hate electricity!

And I indeed am missing the underhood light. Anyone got one to sell?

It's almost dark now, so I'll resume tracking down the problem tomorrow.

Behind the instrument cluster? Do I have to remove the instrument cluster? I sure would hate to do this and find a crumbled backing assembly!

Thanks

I have a underhood light that will be packed with your mirrors one day.I also have cluster backs.
You definitely have to follow the wire back to behind the cluster.
It sounds like you have an undone connection behind there.

Yeah, I got the feeling a connection got knocked loose. There is an aftermarket radio there. It's a big mess (wires for radio). I plan to remove that Kenwood radio and get a factory radio in it. How does Ford wire the factory radios? I hope mine isn't spliced...

Hood light! Allright, thanks! Where is it supposed to be mounted? I recall seeing an 77 F250 with the hood light, it was mounted on the driver's side.

I guess I'll have to wait until I get some free time and parts to remove the cluster.

PS. Have you found those set of mirrors I wanted yet?

I still have the one.
I found another but when trying to take it off > Smash almost cut myself.
Money has been kinda scarce these days too.
I'm trying to sell my 2 Tilt 4x4 columns and first; people want them and then they don't,so auto wrecker visits are quite rare these days.
