'88 Performance

I have a 1988 Bronco wiht a 302 and 3.55 limited slip. I dont have many mods other than a 3" body lift, 2 1/4 " straight pipe, and 32' tires. I was wondering what kind of performace accesories i could add to coax a little more out of my old Bronco. Also my bronco had 2 catalytic converters and i had the back one removed, I was wondering if i had the front one removed if my check engine light would come on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can always consider headers, cold air intake, or even just something as simple as a K&N drop-in filter (they breath SO much better than conventional paper filters). Of course if you really want to go all out, consider aftermarket heads and even the Edelbrock Performer intake for Ford Truck EFI 302's and a larger diameter throttle body. If you remove the cat(s) all together (not recommended and not legal) you will not pass an emissions test if you need to. The cat is aft of the O2 sensor so there will be no adverse effects to the readings it gets and the O2 sensor is the LAST sensor that affects the EEC computer.

considering the size tire your running gears would be your best seat of the pants improvment. especially since it has a 302. i would go 4.10's front/rear. you can spend money on a lot of other things but wont really notice to much.

You WILL have to change carriers on the front because the Dana 44 uses a different carrier for gear ratios 3.92 and up. The 8.8 rear axle will not require changing carriers. Now, with all that said, if you are going to re-gear, now is the time to think about traction control and whether or not you want to change things as far as limited slip or lockers are concerned. LS and locking differentials will end up with new carriers anyway since thats where these mechanisms are located.
