speed sensor?

Ok here my problem. The abs light has come on and gone off a few times over the last couple trips in our motorhome and the tranny shifts or slips out of gear. the last trip home of roughly 150 miles the light came on, lost the speedo, odom stayed light but would not register miles, abs light was on and the tranny began shifting erracticly. After stopping at a red light the speedo began working again and the shifting seemed normal, still had the abs light. After we were home and shuting the rv down, i restarted it and the abs light stayed off.
Would this be an indication of losing the VSS? or the thottle position thingy or both?
any ideas would be a great help. thx

The speed sensor would be a good place to start looking. See if you have the one located in the rearend housing. If you do, take it out and see if it looks ok and if it has metal shavings on it.

If it is the same speed sensor as they put on most of their trucks, the dealer has new sensor for about 25 bucks. Your problems sound very similar to what mine did when my sensor went out.

I was hoping this may be it, It is real easy to get at and no special ford tools to change it. still hoping it is not the thottle position sensor because to adjust this one i believe it has to be done by a ford mech. $$$$$$$
thanks, i'll buy the one and change it. stay tuned.

well, we worked it out, 275 miles, no problems and we even got better gas mileage. hard to believe that the little sensor info would effect so much. thanks again
