Fuel problems?

Hey everyone. I have a 94 explorer XLT that quit on me yesterday. I had stopped at a intersection and suddenly the idle became very chuggish, everything was normal up until then. There was very little response from the throttle at this point, just enough to get me through the intersection and then there was no response at all. The engine was still idling very rough and then eventually stalled after about 2 minutes. When trying to restart the engine, it would actually start no problem ( first turn of the key each time), but would run very rough again and stall within 30sec-1min. I let it sit for about 30 minutes, tried it again and it started and ran fine to get me home. Any thoughts would be very helpful. Thanks in advance. Brian.

I would start by pulling codes from the computer.

Pulling codes is definitely where to start. If they don't reveal anything, consider the fuel filter if it hasn't been replaced.

I checked for codes and there wasn't any. The only other time it did this was last summer when it was 34c outside (roughly same temp. this time too). It seems as soon as the temperature cools down the problem goes away.

Does this mean, "no codes at all, the computer didn't respond during the test." or, "all pass (111) codes."

It sounds like the IAC Sensor may be your problem. We've discussed it in another post. Others have reported similar behavior. =)

Good Luck,
Funky

IAC typically doesn't cause a lack of throttle response. One of the ways to know that's the issue is that it will run if you give it some throttle. Back to MrShorty's question, did it give no codes or no codes other than all clear? If it gave the all clear, you should check the fuel pressure. Could be a filter, as Marragtop has already said, or it could be the fuel pump. Also, check your vacuum tree and hoses to make sure you don't have a large vacuum leak. The tree is on the intake at the rear of the engine on the drivers side.
