question about boost

well today i installed a 4" exhaust from turbo back and i was wondering if if that would cuase my boost level to drop
before i changed i had a 3.5 down pipe and 3.5 exhaust
went to 4 " from turbo back
my boost went from 32psi before to 27 psi boost after and yes i do have the wast gate unhooked
oh and i do have a garrett b.b. turbo and open element ( nappa )
does this sound right can anyone shed some light on this
thanks

TJ that doesn't sound right. But then my truck came with 4" exhaust, and 27 psi is about what I'm getting with stock filter and muffler. Try PMing either cookie88, or dockboy....their into power, and might be able to shed some light on this.

I'm not into power. I just want it to run like International shoulda built it in the first place

It's not uncommon to loose boost with a bigger exhaust. Less restriction in the exhaust means the turbo is spinning slower.

Ok.....I see. The old path of least resistance. The gasses either push the turbine or take the easier route out the exhaust pipe.

yes is does sound right, as cookie said the more stuff you take out of the way the less restriction you will have. i noticed a slight reduction in boost when i did my "AIH delete" mod

Haha...ok, so maybe I'm into power a little bit. I'm not in the same league as Dock and the rest of the high HP bunch.......mostly because I don't have the kind of cash it takes build an engine like that. Course, we'd all have 600 horse monster mills if all it took was willpower.
