Ford's always been cheaper than Chevy in the work-truck class. GM has zero emphasis on that market- a typical Silverado is a Z71 Extra or Crew Cab with power everything, On-Star, and XM. A cloth truck is the price-leader. That was true 20 years ago too. I had friends that almost died laughing when they saw Power Windows and Locks in my new '78 Chebbie 4X4.

 

And where do you make the most money?

It was. The hardest part of selling anything is to attract the customer to the showroom so they can get the "fever". The deal is not actually that much better (except in the case of high demand vehicles such ad the D-Max) but as PB has stated on other posts, it also increased the traffic at other brands as people compared the vehicles. The first out of the box has the advantage because people remember the first tough of the "fever" the fondest.

 

Looking at the numbers pretty close youll see that Ford sold close to the same number off trucks last.month A little less buts thats after a huge sales year last year. I was looking over GM inside news that63% off GM customers bought another GM vehicle last month vs 64% the month before. So it looks like people were pretty brand loyal despite GMs plan. GMs had to pull every trick in the book to sell there vehicles. Last year Ford sold 50,000 plus trucks more the CHevy an GMC combined. Left a lot off old models this year which they finally got rid off. Makes for a sales spike this year. The Mustang 2005 is selling like there is no tomorrow without rebates at all. Theres nothing on the GM side doing this as I can see.

 

I bought my Chevy z71 for 27K...the price had everything to do with the deal. That and the 3.99%!

 

Polarbear. When is the used market going to adjust to the new prices? I would love to get a steal of a deal on an 03 right now.

 

It's starting to happen right now. Some stuff isn't adjusting, some is- SD PSD's are holding firm, but 1/2T's, and anything in the SUV catagory has come down quite a bit.

 

I was reading that GM and Chevy combined sell more trucks than Ford. The Z71 has all those features however, I did not want to waste money on On-Star and XM. The crew cab I picked up was 27K whereas the Ford was similiarly priced but lacked the immenities. Both great trucks but somewhat different markets. What do you think of the Lincoln attempt? Did they not learn their lesson from the Blackwood - or whatever that monster was called.

 

I think the Lincoln truck will sell...if Lincoln/Mercury dealers figure out how to sell it. That's been one weak spot- the dealer group is so luxury-car oriented, they're not strong at selling trucks to truck people. Otherwise, the truck itself looks good (although harldy plusher than my Lariat)

 

If you dont mind can you keep me posted on the diesels and tell me when its a good time to buy. My uncle is a 20 year chevy employee but he is taking some family time and doesnt have his finger on the pulse.

 

Well, I don't care WHAT they sell a Chevy for, I WILL NOT buy one.

 

Anyone know how the Ford employee discount is going? I cant imagine Chevy breaking Fords 28 year streak. Its painful

 

From what Ive heard its doing great. Now that its getting close to the end of the monthit will probably pick up speed. Although most dealers are out off 05 SDs an 150s crew cabs are getting scarce. Its been so hot latly that hasnt helped sales. Its too hot to look at trucks let alone drive one. Moderating temps should help that cause.

 

GMC and Chevy combined sell more trucks than Ford. At least that is hearsay - I read that somewhere so maybe I am wrong.
