Picture request...

Hey guys, I've been searching for some pictures just to see how things are set up but I can't find any. If you have any pics that may help me, please post a link to them. Here's what I am looking for:

1.) A picture that shows the coil spring towers on a 2 wheel drive truck. A bare frame pic would be great so I can see the towers size and height in relation to the frame.

2.) A detailed shot of the stock 4x4 steering system (drag link and tie rod) of a '79 or similar 1/2 ton truck.

3.) A detailed shot of the steering system of a '79 or similar 1/2 ton 4x4 with 9" or more of lift.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes James, it does help, and thanks for posting. The reason for asking about the spring towers is because it looks like yours are a little shorter than the ones on my F-100 4x4, and I was wondering if I would be able to use towers (is "towers" the correct term?) from a 2 wheel drive for some cheap extra lift along with a lift kit. That's a real nice looking project you have.

If you have some tools and want to do a little fabrication it doesn't take much work to move your stock spring towers down lower on your frame. Cutting discs and a welder will do the trick nicely. You will still need to see about extended radius arms or at least some drop brackets for the stock arms.

I think I have a pic in my gallery of my 67 4x4 drag link. The only difference is the 79 has disc brakes and the draglink connects to the tie rod ends very close to the passenger side. Mine only has 4" of lift.

edit: sorry, I checked and it isn't in my gallery. If I can find it it will be in there in a few minutes.

Matt

I have a plasma cutter, welder, and a couple grinders... so modifying my brackets shouldn't be too hard. My current towers are fairly rusty though, and I was thinking if I replaced them with 2wd towers I may not have to modify them. Extended radius arms and drop brackets are in the plan also; I'm wanting between 9" and 12" of suspension lift and no body lift.
