E4OD differences?

Are there any differences between a 4x2 and 4x4 E4OD transmission for a 1996 F-150? If I was to switch from a 4R70W to the E4OD on my 4x4 with 5.0L, would I be able to use the tailhousing extension from the 4R70W on the E4OD? I know there are some length differences in the two transmissions, but aren't the frames drilled to move the crossmember for either?
Thanks for any insights

The extension from a 4R70W would probably not fit the E4OD. The E4OD is a longer trans than the 4R70W. And if you did get the extension housings to work, the output shafts are different lengths on a 4x2 and a 4x4, so that would need to be changed.

And if you were able to get all that to work, where would you get a computer to run the engine and trans? The computer that runs the 4R70W will not operate the E4OD.

Thanks for the input, Casey. I knew the E4OD was longer, but didn't know of the difference in output shafts between 4x4 and 4x2. I was looking at a wrecked 4x2 from which I could salvage the drivetrain and computer. It is easy to switch the computers, isn't it? But I suppose the difference in output shafts will nix the switch.

Does anyone know if my frame has the crossmember holes for the longer E4OD?
