Brake controller question

I 'am about to purchase a brake controller for towing my TT wwith my 2002 F150 XLT. Can some one please tell me if the plug under my dash which has 6 or 7 wires is hooked up to the plug I have on my bumper which only has 4 wires. If I purchase the adapter to go from my 4 on the truck to the round 7 on my TT (tent trailer) will my brakes work or do I need to run a new wire all together

Trailer brakes will not be activated by your 4 wire plug. The actual wiring for 7 may still be present. The wires under your dash probably connect to the fuse/relay box under the hood. Usually, the necessary relays have to be added.

This is fairly involved, and you will need to get detailed instructions from your controller manufacturer, or an experienced technician, or develop them from the factory circuit manual.

Dust, I had the 4 pin on my 2000 f150. Went to ford and bought the 7 pin, it plugged right in to the socket that the 4 pin was plugged into. The 7 pin also came with the 2 relays needed (one for brake controller and one for 12V line). Everything worked like a dream. The 7 pin w/ relays and brake controller pigtail was about $70 from the dealer. Well worth it.

Make sure that your truck has a tranny cooler if you are going to be towing. Heat kills transmissions. It was standard with the towing package.
