Engine Light problems....
Have an annoying problem on my '92 Aerostar. When I drive for extended periods at highway speed, the check engine light comes on. I'm not 100% positive, but I think the trans starts kicking in and out of overdrive at this point too. The van is a 4.0L AWD XLT loaded with electronic everything. The van has 90K, the engine has 10K. The engine was replaced due to an overheating mishap that my wife asked me not to discuss. The new engine was a long block, and I've checked vaccum, timing, etc. The engine runs great otherwise. Any ides what the problem might be? I've already changed the O2 sensor to no avail. Another question I have is regarding the error codes stored in memory. How long do they stay there? A friend suggested that the computer clears these out after a certain amount of time. Any comments if this is true or not? If so, how long until after the problem appears do I have to pull out the codes. I usually have to drive 100 miles or so before the problem presents itself. Thanks for any help anyone can throw my way.
