Column question

Hey guys,
I have a really quick question regarding my steering column. The steering wheel has a lot of play up and down and I was wondering what could be the culprit. Bronco graveyard has an upper column bearing, is that what I need to replace? It's a 75 F250 Camper Special. Thanks
Jeff
P.S.,- this is a straight column, not a tilt column

It could be the upper bearing is shot. When my '73 column had play in it, the problem was the lower bearing was mostly gone and the rag joint (rubber disc between column and steering box) was also shot - allowing extra play in the column.

Pull the column out and take it apart to find all of the worn parts. Replace the parts as required.

250roost ~ I thought my play was due to a bad "top bushing", too.... UNTIL I took my column out for a REAL rebuild. See the movie on my website for the REAL culprit @ http://www.mistynewbeak.com/truck/st.../steering.html and to THINK I was actually DRIVING this beast on the road with a souped up 460!! (makes me shudder!!....)
