fuel problem


I have a 87 S/C with a 5.0 ltr. I have a problem with starting it, It will start and run fine till the high idle shuts down after warm up, it then
overfuels causing the motor to idle roughly then eventually stall, it is bad enough to spit fuel out of the tail pipe as well as out a crack on the
drivers side exhaust manifold, would appreciate any suggestions where to look into the problem, there are no problem codes when truck is
koeo test, won't run long enough to get the koeo test completed

fuel problem

If your truck is fuel injected, check fuel pressure on fuel rail immediately...most shops will do this for $10 to $20. Dangerous condition to leave unattended. Sounds like your fuel pressure regulator is shot and your engine is trying to drink all the fuel the fuel pumps deliver...can't be done. My fpr failed awhile back and it only cost me $130 for the pressure check and replacement (could have done it myself, but didn't have time). FPRs cost about $50.

fuel problem

Leaking Fuel Injector(s)? If you have a fuel pressure tester for FI engines (about $35-40), I would put gauge on the fuel rail test port, turn key ON, not Start, and check fuel pressure. Pump runs for 1 sec. then shuts down till key is cycled again. Pressure should be ~39 pounds and hold steady in this test. I fit bleeds down right away, then there are one or more injectors that don't close, dumping fuel into intake manifold. Dropping pressure can also be a sign of bad pump check valve, etc., but since you are over fueling, other sources of leak down aren't your problem.
If fuel pressure is sky high, could be a bad fuel pressure regulator (cheap fix), or a plugged fuel return line to tank.
Just some quick thoughts.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, i will get right on it on my next couple of days off......I'll post how it turns out
