Engine Swaps

I have a line on both a 429 and a 460, both need to be gone through but my question is what all would be involved in the change. I have a 67 f100 and the old stand by 352 with a c6 auto. I'm wondering about motor mounts ,bell hosusing cross members, clearance issues with exaust and suspension/ steering and such. any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

A lot of stuff to swap but the good news is that it all can be gotten from 75/79 F100/150. If you obtain a parts truck it would be an easy swap. Should not be any clearance problems under that big hood. Thehardest part will be to find a complete parts truck with a 429/460 but that will be so much easier than to find all the parts needed separately.

I am in the process of making this swap in my '66, from a 352 to a 460. Nothing will interchange. You will need the special perches and motor mounts from a truck 460. The car engines will bolt up fine, but you need the perches, and the special cups for them which bolt to the block. The rubber motor mounts go in between, for a total of three pieces. Fortunately, the 460 perches bolt right up to the frame. No modifications are necessary.
You will need a transmission or bellhousing for the 385 series engines as well.
I recommend you do what I did: Buy a '73 - '79 truck with a 460. If you can find one with the transmission you want, so much the better. If not, you can get a tranny later.
I bought a '77 for the perches. Sold the front end, rear axle, wiper delay and other parts, and got more than I spent back on it. I then bought an '86 with a rebuilt 460; I will replace the cam and the timing gears to '1970 specs. Next, I bought a wrecked but barely driveable '83 with the C-6 automatic. I sold the well used engine for more than I paid for the truck, and got the C-6 for free.

Hope this helps!

If you use headers (73-79 429/460 Headmans) they will be a little tight on the passenger side but nothing an exhaust shop couldn't handle. Also, if you convert to power steering use a saginaw p/s box. The bendix box will hit the headers. I think the C6 will fit on your tranny crossmember no problem. If you go 1 piece driveshaft you will have to have it made. The clearance between the motor and firewall will be less than 1 inch. Check out my gallery for pics

Guys there is a couple references to 429/460 engine parts in this thread, while they are the same block there will be no reference to the 429 on anything for a truck in any parts house because the 429 was never factory installed in a truck.

John da picker is right on da money.

Thanks, for the replies. My biggest concern I guess is if there will be any cutting and welding involved, as I don't weld. (like to learn though) The truck already has a c6 in it, what about bell housings for the 429/460, I know mine wont work. Also any clearance problems with the steering shaft coming out of the firewall?
