C6 Help!!

Launched my c6 on the way to work today....slips like mad. Anyone in the New England, Upstate NY area have one.. I would like a good used one, can't afford new, I think rebuilding is expensive. My truck is my daily driver, and this puts a damper on things. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Chris

The c6 is one of the toughest trannys on the market. Mabye yours just needs a tune up? when was the last time you changed the fluid/filter in it? sometimes that can make all the difference, and it is a heck of a lot cheaper and quicker than a tranny swap. I know on a rare occasion they can go out, cause I had to have mine rebuilt about 2 years ago. 2nd gear went out completely, but all the other gears worked fine. It never slipped or anything.

The band might need to be adjusted/tightend. Get a torque wrench and get under neath the truck. On the drivers side of the tranny where the kickdown/shifter controls are there is a band adjusting screw. Theres a lock nut and then the screw, losen the lock nut and tighten the screw to 10 ft-lbs. Back off the adjusting screw exactly 1-1/2 turns. Hold the adjusting screw from turning and snug up the locknut. See if it still slips. Get back to us. All information is from 365-127-79A Ford Truck Shop Manual.

I had a hard time finding my locknut/screw, was covered in dirt and looked like it was part of the transmission housing. It should be about 1"-2" directly infront of the kickdown/shift controls are.

before you do any of that stuff, check the fluid level first.
