I have the '78 jacuzzi with a new 2hp motor- original was 1.5. It was working great - built up to 125+ w/o any difficulty and i put the switch to cut off at 120-125. Dual cylinder compressor.
Now once it builds to 50 lbs's or so it really starts to struggle- I changed the oil etc and even went to synthetic just to see if the new compressor specific oil is too thick. I'm sure it will burn out the motor if I run it like this.
I'll ask all the questions for replacing the motor.
Is the rpm the same?
Is the drive pully(one on the motor) the same?
Is the motor rated for air compressor use? (same type)
Is the pressure control wired correctly?
Is there any voltage drop across the control?
Is the motor wired correctly? some motors can be wired for 120/230v
Is the rotation correct?
I asume you used synthetic air compressor oil for recipicating compressors?
the oil should not make much differance in the operation just the longevity.
just some things to double check, should help you trouble shoot the problem. start by checking the electrical stuff first.
rpm is same
pulley is same
motor is rated
pressure control is wired right
unsure of voltage drop as of yet
it's wired right
rotation is right
right oil
remember that it ran great for several weeks- thinking it's a compressor problem?? will have to check voltage drop.
Check the fitting where the tube/pipe from the pump enters the tank. It should be a check valve/ unloader. At any rate, it probably is gummed up. You should be able to disassemble it and clean it, tho, sometimes the seat material breaks up causing the jam.
Should be able to get a replacement at Graingers.
