Hi, i'm Justin and i just joined. I'm 16 and I have a 1994 Ford F-150 Shortbed . The current engine in my truck is the 4.9L inline 6. It's also a five speed. My dad and i want more power so we would like to put in a 302. Does anybody know if i need any new parts for this engine swap? Will the current transmission match up with a 302? Thanks.
Your '94 has all the computer and possibly smog issues to deal with. You will get some additional power from a stock 302, but IMO not enough to justify the cost of this swap. Now a modified 302 or better yet 351 is going to show a terrific improvement, but again, you are into smog violations and have to decide if you are going to swap over from a "donor" rig or go aftermarket efi or go carb.
Your 5 speed will bolt up to a 302 or 351 as they share the bell housing pattern with the six. I can't tell you about flywheels etc as each engine has a certain requirement for balance.
IMO if your six is running fine, drive it. At $2.60 per gallon, why do you want to burn more gas anyway?
The other option, if your 94 is a fine looking/running rig is to sell it or trade it for a stocker with the V8 of your dreams, up to a 460 or a V10 if you want.
