My rear leaf spring on the drivers side is broken in half. It is the middle one (out of three) so it hasnt come out yet. How much does a new set run, and how long is it safe to drive like this? I have no clue how long its been like this but the rear drivers side has sagged since Ive owned the truck, but just now noticed the leaf spring. Any advice?
i can't believe the spring leaves haven't already slid out. i would certainly get this fixed. could be dangerous situation. a junk yard will only sell sets, so good luck on this. dealer would be $$$$ for a set for one side. if you get me the measurements, i've got a set of rears from mid 90's that i bought to get the bottom overload springs from, (had 4 total), and it fit my '01 just fine. I can't sell these now because i've used one spring off of ea. side. but i would sell the middle spring leaves-let me know your measurments if yor interested. shipping wouldn't be too much i wouldn't think, esp. compared to the whole set. there heavy! thanks.paul
I was wanting to just go ahead and replace the set. I think it hasnt slid out yet cause of the weight and pressure from the springs on either side. I can replace them myself, but I was thinkin of going ahead and doing both sides. I am supposed to haul a 4 wheeler tomorrow (only a few miles), and was wantin to know if it would be okay? A month or 2 ago I hauled the same 4wheeler 150 miles and Im almost positive that the leaf was broken then too, just wasnt aware.
I had new set of rear leaf springs replaced on my 98 F150 two years ago.... I recall paying around $400-500 to replace with OEM and labor at independent shop. Wish I didn't replace with OEM, should have optioned out with heavier duty springs, even with new OEM springs, it still sag out when towing my 3K tent trailer. Kind of embarrassing with the blue oval on front hood.
Hmm....I might look about going aftermarket. I loaded up that 4wheeler today anyways and it seemed to do just fine. I want a little more heavier duty springs, but I dont want it lifted, is that possible? The only reason why is cause it would look goofy with just the rear end lifted. Recommendations?

check your phonebook out you should have a spring shop locally they can build you custom sets cheaper than than oem and they can reuse the good springs out of your packs saving you money or do like i do get the replacement springs plus overloads from spring shop and rebuild them yourself
I had an extra leaf put in my 00 and the stock leafs re arched for $300. Took the sag out and it rode a lot better. Ask around and find a shop that comes highly recommended.
