ranger problems
in my 1990 2.9l 4 wheel drive ranger there always seems to be liquid blasting out of the tail pipe when it starts up and when i hit the accellerator. it has sit for some months including through winter and the liquid is an orangishi color. ihave been told its rust water but im not sure so i just want to make sure its not anything else other than that. also some where on the drivers side of the vehicle there is an air leak in one of my hoses or something cause after its been run and you have the hood up when you shut it off you can hear air rushing from somewheres.

rusty water (some) is normal after a rig sits,its condensation in the exhaust.But after 50 miles,say,and its more than a few drips,the source is likely a leaking head gasket.the hissing could be the a/c equalizing (normal) or a leaking vacuum diaghphram in brake booster? or lines

The hissing is most likely the rubber grommet in the brake booster, where the vacuum hose from the intake plugs into it. Just give it a wiggle when you hear the hissing, see if that changes it. Easy fix, took about 30 seconds to do mine.
As thorman said, the water is most likely just condensation from the exhaust since it's been sitting. Let it run for a while and see if it goes away. But keep an eye on the temp. gauge, don't forget that those 2.9 heads love to crack. -TD
