Can you trust people?

ok.... SO Im lookin for an engine for my truck right now.. I need a 302.. and I found this ad on a local online selling site... kinda like an online newspaper with this guy selling his 302 that he rebuilt..

I talked to him on the phone and he said 700 $ for the engine... he rebuilt it.. put it in his cougar... removed it to put it in his falcon... sold the cougar... and put a 351 in the falcon instead... so he has an extra engine... 1300 miles on it..
HE said he would throw in a tranny too for a total of $1000 (same tranny in the cougar, he got it rebuilt at a tranny shop, it also has 1300 miles on it) He also said he would deliver it and sign a contract at a notary stating that I could hear the engine run in my truck for a day and if it didnt run right that he would refund the money...

Do you think this guys just going to deliver me a bum engine and run home with my money never to see me again? Can I trust him?

Can you really trust anyone anymore? It could be a straight up good guy, but who knows. If he's willing to refund the money after one day of "testing", offer him half on delivery and the rest upon testing.

So you don't trust him and he doesn't trust you.....sounds about right.
If he's willing to do a contract make sure you get accurate information.
If he breaks the contract then you have grounds for legal action, but do you really want to go through that?

It's too bad that you can't trust anyone anymore. The tighter money gets the more scams, thievery and rip offs you run accross. The only problem is that some people might be banking on the fact that legal action can cost you more to go after them then you lost on the deal and that still doesen't mean you'll get your money back.

How much is a rebuilt 302 long block with a warranty from Advance or Autozone, $800-$1000? Who cares about how it sounds, how is the engine compression? It is not like a 302 is a rare engine, they are a dime a dozen. A good running normal 302 is worth $500 tops.
