external regulator
I am planning on putting a new alternator in my "79 F-150 and was wondering what I would all need to do if I was to put an internally regulated alternator on. Does the external regulator do anything else? Power up anything? Thanks.

You could change it over. A little re-wiring is what would be needed(mainly moving wires around to different places).
