Is This Do-able????
I have a 2004 F250 CC 6.0 Diesel King Ranch. The MSRP was $48K rounded off. I am interested in a new 2005 with the same MSRP of $48K.
If I go to the dealer and trade my 2004 on a 2005, how much out of pocket dollars would you think i`d be looking at?
I was thinking $4K might do it. Owe nothing on 2004.

If you owe nothing then it's very do-able Expect the dealer to try to rip you off though, stick by your guns and show him a sheet from KBB.com, NADA.com, or Edmunds.com that shows the retail value of your trade the highest and tell him that you know that what ever the difference between that and what he gives you is pure profit. Make sure your truck is super-duper-extra clean and demand an extra $350 in reconditioning cost credit, since Service won't need to charge Sales to clean it. The Salesman should get $100 for his time...So go directly to the Sales Manager. Also Stop by fordvehicles.com and find out about any incentives, coupons, what ever, then negotiate, pull them out, and blindside 'em with it. Your most important tool is your feet. Shop around on the phone and see wich dealer is going to undercut another dealer to get your business...simply ask what'll a new truck cost? I saw one cheaper at...Theyll go for it every time. At invoice, you can buy that '05 for about $41-43 including the rebate. So, how much can that dealer expect to get for a used '04? $44000 ($48K less your $4000 difference)? I don't think so. We just sold a used '05 Supercab Lariat 4x4 with 3500 miles for $31500 (that stickered for $38000), and it took 4 months to get that.

A local dealer here recently had a used 04 King Ranch fully loaded on their lot. I'm not completely sure of the miles but I think it was in the 20k range. They were asking $37 and it was there for quite awhile. My guess would be that you can expect to trade for $33-$35. Your best bet would be to sell your truck yourself. Might want to try e-bay. With new King Ranch's going for 41-42, you could ask 37-38 for your truck and it would probably sell. Then put the $4,000 with it, and your in a new truck!

I did a price check at K. Blue Book and with my options:
TRADE 34,075 BUMMER
PRIVATE 38,175 AAAAH
DEALER 42,185 8K PROFIT AT TRADE PRICE

I think Jeff's pretty well nailed it, although it sounds like our market for used 6.0's is a bit stronger on this side (big rebate on new ones, but they're rapidly disappearing). You're always better off, with a real late model rig like that, to retail it yourself.

Well im in the wholesale auto business. When the dealer thinks of what to offer for a trade they dont just go by the KBB they also look at the market report for theyre local dealer auctions. At auction your 2004 KR will only bring about $31000 or maybe $32000 if its a busy day.
Now since the dealer can go get any KR that he wants from auction for no more than $32000 why would he pay you more for your truck. The bottom line is your lucky if you get $30000 for yours. Im not trying to burst your bubble here but those are just the facts.
Youll be better off just selling your truck yourself. Youll probably end up getting about $35000 for it.
