WEll the basic pistons are cast (or stock in most cases), Hyperauretic (actually cast but with better alum alloys), and forged. The names pretty much describe how they are made. what is best is based more on what you want, if price is your concern, and are just building a stock engine or slightly modified ie small cam, and alum intake with 4bbl carb than cast works, hypers would be a little better for not much more money, and can take a little more rpms, and power. Forged are best for heavily modified, nitrous, supercharged, adn high rpm applications but also cost more, they also had the habit, in the old days of having piston slap when cold although the newer alloys are allowing for tighter clearances now, and that is not as much of a concern as it once was.
