U joint changing??

Ok so I have to replace the u-joints and figured I would go ahead and replace the carrier bearing while im at it. Is it important to keep the drive shafts aligned (front and back) as far as the splines go where they meet in the carrier bearing? basiccly do I have to make sure it all goes back exactly the same or can I just slap it all back in however I want? thanks for your replies. oh its a 66 F-250 2wd manual with a T18 somethin-or-other transmission

To avoid any balance problems, I have always made reference marks on the driveshaft with a metal marker. If you don't mark it somehow and you do come up with balance issues, you won't know where to put it back and may have to get the driveshaft rebalanced.
I learned my lesson on a 1 ton truck, once.

No, just don't "slap" it back together. You for sure want to have the u-joint yokes phased. That is, in alignment. It's best just to make marks as previously described to avoid problems.
You will also have to press the carrier bearing on/off, so be prepared for that.
