EFI conversion

Ok guys...I have read other threads on this but still not sure what I need.
I have an 86 F-150 4x4 with a 302 auto. My plan is that when the fuel injection goes bonkers, drop a manifold and carb on the engine. This truck is for work and play only...it is NOT a daily driver. I bought it to explore the 230 acres my g/f has at her house. Would I need to change the distributor? I plan on using an electric fuel pump when I do this also. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Maybe there is a link to a site that can guide me through this.

Yes, you need to change the distributor. The one you have now does not control the timing at all. The fuel injection computer does. You would need to get a distributor with a vaccum advance coming out of it. This type will have the weights inside that control the timing as well as the vacuum advance. You could wire a duraspark II(Ford), and old points type, or you could buy and aftermarket distributor.

Advice-Don't let your fuel injection go bonkers.Maintain and it will serve you well.It will be a lot less headaches than changing to carburetor.
Only advice.

Thanks for the replys guys. Majority seems to think that I need to keep the EFI running. My future brother-in-law(a die hard Ford man) told me to keep it. He said he has never known a Ford computer to go bad. Are they that reliable?
