Unhappy Crazy intermitent Electrial problems

Ok, I have a 92 F-150 300 I6, 4x4 that is all manual, and no AC. Over the last week I have been getting intermitent charging problems. I am not sure if it is possible that it is the Voltage Regulator or the Alt. or something else completely. Since it is intermitent I tried to describe the situation as best as I could. I have never been able to test the electrical while the problem was occurring.

I will start the truck up and it will run fine, then down the road the charing light will come on and my volts drop down, then a minute later it is running ok. The other thing that happens is I start it and the light is on, then a minute or so later it is running ok. The second time this happend I stopped and jiggled the wires on the alt. to see if it made a diffrence and the light went off. Later that day I tried again it it didn't work. It also didn't shut off for about 15 minutes.

When it happened and I had a free minute I took it to a parts store to have it checked out. I shut it off to go inside and get someone to test it but when I started it up there was no light and charging was fine. Later that day I drove it to columbus and it seem to be doing good till I stopped for gas and it was charging up around 16V judging by the dash gauge and where it normaly sits and where it was when the light was on. I didn't have any problems with anouther 45 min drive.

The last two days the light has come on again but either goes out with a small amount of driving or shuts off when I turn the truck off and turn it back on. It never seems effected by charging high or low but I figure charging high isn't good for the battery and low is either not enought to keep charging the battery or only running off the battery. Tonight I got in and it was low charging but when I gave it some gas it jumped to high voltage, then when I let off it jumped back and forth and dropped down again. When I reved it again it bouched a bit and stayed at around 14-15v.

Is the Voltage reg. part of the alt or seperate, I know you can get them seperate but if I get a new alt. will it come with one?

Should be internal to the alternator. Almost sounds like the rotor brushes are bouncing on alternator rotor slip rings causing intermittent problems or regulator is failing.
