02 f150 supercrew.37k.used purchased for christmas. question or comments welcomed. during test drive never got into open hiway,once i did, truck would shift into over drive. if i tried to maintain speed with slight acceleration truck would shutter instead of down shift. hard accel would down shift and truck ran good. it seemed that problem occur only when trying to maintain speed with low rpm. took back and dealer could not duplicate. than all went south from there. after a hard rain had a severe electrical situation. connot activate, deactivate theft. pwr door locks,power windows, wipers, dash indicater for 4x4 clicking in and out. a complete electrical failure. found on this web other owner with same problem... leaking windshield, drivers floor soaked. dealer removed windshield, resealed, replaced fuse box and electric module. after repair all electrical operation work fine. still having this shudder problem when trying to maintain a normal cruising speed not only in o.d. but in any higher range. instead of a smooth down shift feels like the convertor wouldn,t lock. also noticed a slight, very slight shudder during pulling out. this situation does not happen all the time, very eratic. i did notice today during drive to work the "theft" indicator on dash flicked on and off no set pattern and very weak. during this time shudder situation occurred. no rain this am and after a few miles truck ran great. any comments?????

 

Whew you got me. Sounds like the truck may need an excorcise. lol Good luck though.

 

Sounds like the leaking windshield gasket/bad GEM module syndrome. It happens to 1997-2003 non-Super Duty F-series. The GEM is the electrical component located at the back of the fuse box. Hit the Expedition section of this site, or do a site search for more details.

The trans issue may be unrelated. Some owners report good results after a transmission fluid change.

 

paulc, thank you. i did return to dealer, resealed windshield, replaced fusebox and gem module. all electrical working great. thanks for input. i'll set up for a fluid/trans service and see if my shudder in overdrive becomes corrected. thanks again
