Wiring Problems

I just bought my dad's old 1985 Ford F150 XLT. Well let's just say it was cheap enough to be given away. Anyway it has a small electrical problem I just can't seem to find. This truck has a 1994 F-150 5.0 in it but it also had a steering column put in from a 1981 F-150 in it. The truck seem to run fine until the column swap now it seems that you'll be going down the road and the lights will flicker. When the lights flicker the trucks engine flickers with it. It seems like a loose wire somewhere but I am running out of places to look. Some days it will run fine then others it will start this mess. Is it possible my problem is stemming from the steering column?

I would guess that it is either a bad ignition switch or the key tumbler isn't fully engaging the switch or a wire chaffed and is shorting out where the harness loops back over the steering column. Just a few guesses.

Thanks for the ideas as to where to look. Another thing I noticed was that the Tachometer does not work in this truck either. I wonder if that isn't all related somehow.

Or then again, could be as simple as a bad battery cable or connector and your losing voltage when it moves.

Yeah, That's an idea. I bought a new headlight switch and a new ignition switch for it last night. Maybe one of those will help.
