Question Adding oil evey 2 weeks

I have to add oil in my 93 ranger 3.0L V6 once every 2 weeks, this has been going on for quite awhile now, there is no leaking anywere, and I change my oil filter every 6 months. How do I fix this problem. I use Penzoil 5W 30 and my engine has 144000 miles on it.

How many miles do you drive every two weeks? Do you have any blue smoke? If you do when does it smoke the most? Can you run a compression test?

FYI, you should change the oil every 3000 miles or every 3 months.

I agree with Ken, you should be changing your oil and THE Filter every 3000 miles...Watch for smoke when you start it up or if you let it sit idling for a while and then take off. Also check for leaks like around the valve covers and such...could be a small leak there and the heat of the engine block is burning it off before it ever reaches the ground

No blue smoke, no leaking and I do change my oil every 3,000 miles, thats the weird part I do have 144,000 miles on the engile but still it shouldnt burn that fast. Oh yea and I drive about 600 miles every 2 weeks, and i dont have the abillity to run a compression test. Thank you for all your replys

Did this oil useage problem begin after some event, or slowly over time??? Try pulling & reading the spark plugs, as this can give you some indication of each cylinders condition, not as good as a compression test, but better than a guess LOL. This stuff just doesn't dissappear all by itself. If there isn't any external signs of a leak, then only two possibilities remain, it's consuming it internally, or you have a practical joker messing with your mind, by removing a little every day or so.LOL

Searching for leaks and plug readings are good ideas.also you might
try a 10 wt oil.. My I6 started suckin oil bad around 150K,so i went
up to 10 wt. at the present it has run to 190K and i'am up to 20 wt.
considering the abuse it took for many years (two boys thru school&
college) i surprised it still runs at all. I've used all types of oil ,from
$1- $5 a quart in the beast.. IMHO any SL rated oil will work...dbr
