What advantages does the electronic throttle control have over the old reliable mechanical cable type?

 

It is said to somehow improve emissions.

I think it sucks.

 

Basically with fly by wire, you can take out pedal pumping people do. If you have someone that constantly goes up and down on the throttle, you get poor mileage and I'm sure poor emmissions.

By using the computer to take out those user input oscillations, you can improve milage and emmisions.
