Coolant sensor

Coolant sensor

Im looking to add an autometer coolant temp guage on my motor, i have a 351w, i know where the sensor is, how to get to it yada yada yada, but i dont know what size the threads are, or the plug size, does anyone know? Im looking to install a t fitting so i can run both the autometer guage and the ford guage, thanks for the help--dinty01

should be 1/4 in. pipe thread.

Ok, thanks daerhldgs, what tool would I use to measure that opening and thread size for future reference? thanks for your help--Dinty

i think that would be a micrometer...you can get'em cheap at pawn shops

I lead you a stray as the temp is .650 in. approx which is 3/8 pipe while the oil pressure sender is approx. .515 in. which is 1/4 in. pipe thread.

OK, I got the necessary t fittings and all the stuff I need, but I had a thought, for the coolant sensor, do I need to drain the coolant from the whole system? With the truck sitting all night it will be cold in the morning so I was wondering if draining the whole system would be overkill? Thanks for any input--Dinty01

keep the rad cap on and you should lose minimal coolant , I wouldn't drain it!
