All Aboard.........!

Greetings.
I Canada many years ago we used to have a trans-continental train called " The Canadian " (go figure).
This train used to travel across our great country from at Montreal P.Q. to Vancouver B.C.The Canadian eventually became the "VIA".
Unfortunately for Calgarians,Canadian Pacific Railway decided to re-route the passenger service through Edmonton therefore, the VIA stopped coming through Calgary.
This was the start of a Dark period for Passenger Train transportation in Western Canada.I remember travelling on the train to Montreal in 1955,in the Dining car,the observation domed car,the nighttime sleeping Berth all.
It was like an Adventure.I was able to relive some train travel in England in 2000 and it too was an adventure.

How many of you in the State still travel or look forward to rail travel by Amtrak ,and is it very efficient means of travel through the states?

Dennis, I don't know if a lot of people still travel by train as a main means of transportation. But, I have rode the train from Tampa, FL to Savannah, GA- it's a great ride! Here in the Smokies (NC), we have a rail road that takes passengers on a scenic ride through the country- they even have rides in the evening that include dinner.I think they run year round,I know they are really busy during the summer. And the scenery is breathtaking!!
