Cold Start Question ?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-Oct-02 AT 07:08 PM (EST)] I have an 1984 F-150 , Carburated 351 H.O. ,with electric choke, it starts fine cold, but when i drive it ,on some mornings it will stay in high idle until it warms up, then it will drop to normal idle .
On other mornings it will start ok, but then the idle is sporatic for the first few minutes, when driving if i realease the throttle, the speed stays the same, and then increases in rpm, (kinda like cruise control ) accelerating the truck a little more until I brake.
Idle is almost non existent at this point until it warms then its fine . Thank you in advance for your help !

The first thing I would do is get some wd40, or something like it, and spray the linkage on both sides of the carb and see if it fixes it. If it doesn't, then I want you to take note of when it gives you trouble. If it only messes up on days when it is rainy outside, you might have a carb icing problem. This can be caused by the flapper valve in your air cleaner not working correctly, so it's not pulling in warm air from around the exhaust manifold. Can also be caused by any of this system missing-like a chrome air cleaner instead of the factory one.

Hi Franklin ,it happens just about every morning, since it got cold a couple of weeks ago, usally every day ! it does what i described for about 20 minutes , by the time i arrive at work, it is usally fine (25) Minutes from home ! at highway and 30 MPh !
