coolant temp. sensor

I've got to install a new coolant temp. sensor on my '91, 2.3L Ranger. Where is it exactly? I also want to flush the coolant while I'm at it. I see where to drain the coolant from the radiator. How do I drain the block?

The sensor shouldn't be too hard to find if you have it in hand. They are usually located near the top of of the block, sometimes in the intake manifold (I don't think they are in the 2.3). There is no drain for the block that I am aware of. You may have to remove the lower radiator hose and that should get most of the coolant without flushing it with a hose.

Left rear corner of block just below the intake manifold. You have to look from a couple
of different angles to see it. Single wire goes to it.

found it

I've found it, but how in the world do I get to it. I can't seem to get to it easily from up top. Do you recommend coming up from underneath or should I just remove whatever's in my way on the top side?
