302 EFI problems

I'm working on a 85 f150 with a fuel injected 302. It was ran out of gas and then would never start again. After sitting for a few months I towed the truck to my house and changed the fuel filter and the plugs and it fired right up. It runs rough and won't idle. When running at about 2000 rpm's it runs fairly smooth. I started it today, and it idled for a little while when the choke was on. As soon as I hit the gas it wouldn't idle again. Also has a little bit of black smoke coming from the exhaust. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Joel

Check the fuel pressure. It should be around 40psi. Un-plugging the fuel regulator vacuum line should make it jump up(by the way, make that vacuum line is hooked up on the regulator). If it won't jump up, and is reading high, you might have a bad fuel regulator.

302 EFI problems

You might want to try the "Idel air control"my truck sat 3 weeks and the thing just froze up.I got a new one and proublum solved.Only thing is it cost me 50$ on my 86 bronco,so it's a little risky but it worked for me.

....GOOD LUCK....

Like Franklin2 says, try new fuel pres. reg. , as it may need it anyway. Also, try using throttle body cleaner for the t.b. worked wonders for me.
Good luck
