Automatic Trans. Shifter
I live in Ohio, north of Dayton. We got about a foot of the white stuff when the storm came through. And having my trusty Ford, I was asked to help some of my neighbors to get their Imports and what not out. So, I fired her up and away I went.
However, I got a break and went to warm up for a while in the house. I came back out and got back in the truck, and when I put it in reverse, the truck went into reverse. But when I tried to shift into Drive, the shifter felt mushy, and it didn't shift.
Well got to looking around and found out the collar on the column, the cast piece inside that actually moves the tube to shift the truck was broke along with the welded tab on that tube. (Wished I would have bought the wife the digital camera she wanted. I could take some pics). Does anyone know what these 2 parts are called and if you can buy them new? It's titled as a 1978 but acording to the Drag Link I still gotta buy, it's a 76-77(Passenger side I think is like 13 5/8 inches long and Driver side is some where around 44 inches. Maybe I got the drivers and Pass. sides mixed up). I can get them from a junk yard but it's gonna be another one that's almost 30 years old. Also how do you get that tube out that goes around the actual steering shaft. It's the thing that actually connects the shifter in the cab to the shift linkage on the transmission. Also, it's there any difference between a C-6 and C-4 shifting tube and the column shifter collar? If you need some more info, I'll be popping in and out of this forum pretty much all day. Thanks for any help. I always come here to find out any info and to help out other if I can. FTE is the best.

I assume this column is a NON-Tilt column ?
Perhaps it is time to put in a tilt column ?
Please read the READ First threads in the 73-79 forum to explain these have to/should be posted in the topic specific forums.
