Tailgate locks itself
Does anyone know about a factory recall on tailgate locks that lock themselves? I went to open the tailgate and it was locked. Had a devil of a time getting the key to unlock it.
The previous owner said they had a recall and it was supposedly fixed, maybe not. Anyone else have this problem?

It's a much-seen problem, and I'm pretty sure people have gotten it fixed with redesigned parts under the 3/36 warranty, but I don't think there was ever a recall on it. Since the miserable low-life Permatech bedliner installer sprayed right over my tailgate access plate on the '03, I'm crossing my fingers that mine never starts doing that...

No recall but I believe there was a TSB on it.
Remove the access panel in the tail gate lube all the linkage. Spay the key hole with WD40 or simular.This will take care of it 90% of the time. Use something with staying power inside the panel. Teflon based or white lube. WD40 will work but only for several months.
