light switch

Have an 80 bronco and just today the dash and heater lights stop working.
They won't come on,everything else comes on and works.Fuses are all fine.Could the swith turn on the running lights and not the dash lights? The dimmer control also stills works.Everything works except dash and heater lights won't come on.

Nobody ever come across this problem? Any thoughts about it would be great.

I assume you mean the high/low beam switch in the floor?

If you have no dash illumintation, I would start to suspect the rheostat on front of the headlight switch. The one where you turn the headlight ****, and it dims the dash lights. This sometimes burns out, and a new headlight switch will fix it.

Check the dash & heater lights for a common ground wire.
Pull the wiring plug off of the headlight switch, figure out which wire runs the dash & heater lights & check to see if it's burned or loose or corroded. Use a test light to confirm 12V coming out of the switch on that pin.
Once you figure out which wire it is, use a jumper from another 12V+ to test the lights.

My diagram shows a lightblue/red coming right off the headlight switch for the dash lights. It goes to fuse #13, and then spreads out to the lights. I would assume that all works though, since your other guages work. I would pull the instrument cluster out and see if you have 12 volts on the lightblue/red going to the circuit board. Make sure to check the circuit board ground too like Dealford said.
