Jason, either the power steering pump (engine mounted) or the steering gear (frame mounted) could fail. Needless to say the pump is far more common but you should check the source of your leak before condemming any one part. Chances are if you have a severe enough leak where as you no longer have the propper fluid level this could be the sole source of your problem. If run in this state for a period of time dammage could also occur to the pump itself. Make sure to inspect both the pressure and retun line for signs of leakage along with the high pressure cut out switch.

Hope if gives you a starting point. Good luck.

Jason,

Spray down the area around the power steering components with some engine degreaser, then check the power steering fluid level in your reservoir and refill as per owner manual. Fire up the truck, let it run and see if can find the source of the leak.....you might need to turn the wheel a few times left and right...but ONLY DO THIS WHILE ITS RUNNING! I found this out the hard way, that if you crank the wheels with the engine not running there is a very high chance that you will blow your shaft seal in your pump.

This should atleast give you an idea of where your leak is actually coming from, hope that helps

Jason,

Im a little confused, I dont think there is a switch of any sort..... I believe some trucks had a quick-disconnect pressure line.....is that what you mean?
