heater problem!!

heater problem!!
I know this is in the wrong forum, but I can't find an appropriate one. My wife has a 99 taurus and the heater seems to have gone out. When you first turn it on, it works for a few seconds, then it just starts blowing cool air out. Is this the result of a bad heater core???? Any tips would be appreciated.

Here are a few ideas for you.
1. It is possible that the thermostat is stuck open and the car is not heating up fully.
2. Next time you start the car crank the heater on high. Next check the two hoses that go to the heater hose. They usually run side by side and go into the fire wall on the passengers side. Then once the car warms up you should be able to feel the heat through both hoses. If one is hot and the other is cool you most likely have a clogged heater core.
Of course there may be other issues but hopefully these will help lead you in the right direction.

could be the mode door that swings between evaporator and heater core in duct not working properly. mine in the truck is vaccuum I think. switch between hot and cold and see if you can here itswitch. also does it happen while sitting still or driving for a short distance ? shoul'nt be hot after initial startup. just a thought.
