Hello all. new to the site, and proud new owner of a '78 F150 4x4, Lariat with an automatic. This thing is in need of a full body off resto! While I'm not new to restoring, I am new to Fords. If I can get some pics posted in the next week or two, could you guys give me some clues as to what engine this thing has? I'm guessing 302 or 351. Dont know if it'd be a W or M block. (I've been doing Chevys...)The truck has 68xxx original miles. It has sat in a farmer's field for a while, so I expect it's wiring is trashed. The body is rough. It has been on propane for most of its life. Right now it's sitting at my Father-in-law's farm in MO. I'll get some pics over the Thanksgiving holliday. Would appreciate any help you guys can give.

4th digit of Vin#:
H = 351M 8 valve cover bolts( Not W's in 79)
302 = 5 Valve cover bolts

They never put 302s in 4x4s, so you have an M, as in 351M or if you are lucky a 400, which has pretty good cylinder heads, and not much else.
A 400 will have a S in the VIN code, as opposed to the H.
