Erroneous Odometer

2001, 2WD, 4-Liter, Auto Tranny, 16000 Miles
My truck has been averaging 19 MPG. The past 2 fill-ups I see that I'm getting 21 MPG. I haven't done anything such as changing wheels and I monitor the tire air pressure. Is it possible for the odometer to get out of synch? Or has the Minnesota gas formula changed from winter to summer and now I'm getting more bang for the buck? Or, now that the ambient temperature has increased, and the running gear lube is less viscous, is there less rolling friction?

Erroneous Odometer

The tire size/axle ratio parameter for the pcm could be wrong. It will take a dealer w/ WDS to gain access to this. The values for these are entered into the PCM memory and stored. I recently ck'd mine as I updated my PCM to the latest revision level and found that they were wrong. Made a world of difference, as my speedo is now correct.
