I Have A 391 Truck Block Built To 428 Specs. It Is In 75 F250 Crew Cab. My Dad Had It Built About Ten Years Ago. It's Running About 10:1 Compression. It's Got Msd Ignition. I Am Not Sure What Cam It Has But I Am Running A 600 Edelbrock Carb. After I Bought It From My Dad I Put Headers On It And It Flat Came Alive. I Could Pull Anything As Fast As I Wanted To. I Thought Since Headers Made Such A Differance I Bought A Edelbrock Performer Intake And Gave Away My Stock Intake. The New Intake Has Dropped My Horse Power Below What It Was Before I Put The Headers On. I Need Some Advice On What To Do To Give Me My Hose Power Back Up Where I Know It Should Be.

What intake did you put on it? Was it the Performer or the Performer RPM? I'm guessing that the intake port opening on the head was smaller than the opening of the intake. You need to open up the intake ports on the heads to match the intake.
Yep that would be my guess as well. The original one sounds like it was port matched for the heads. Was the original iron or aluminum? If it was aluminum you might have givin away an expensive item like a 428PI or sidewinder possibly. Can you get it back? G.
so do i have to pull the heads off to have them matched.
Yes. You need to take the intake and heads off to match the head ports to the intake.
Edit: Just saw that it is the standard performer. I dont think the ports on this are bigger than stock, but they could be. I'd still pull it and check 'em, and match if needed.

Can't comment on the std performer as the RPM and the old F427 are the only two Edel's I've had. I'm not sure you will get the flow you had even with porting the manifold as the runners are smaller on the performer. I'd see if you could exchange it or sell it and get the RPM or look at the blue thunder intakes. A little more $$$$ but a really nice intake. G.
FFR428, without stealing this thread, how much of a gain is the F-427 vs the Performer manifold in performance? I have a 410, 9.0 cr w/428 cj cam, LR 427 heads, headers, performer, 670 Holley, duel exhaust with custom X. I also have a F-427 that i haven't installed. F-427 with a 1" 4-hole spacer? A 68 CS, 3.54 w/12:00 x 33 rear and C-6. Carl.......o&o>.........
Carl they are both pretty much the same manifold but as I remember the F427 might have bigger ports out of the box. I never had them side by side and owned them at two different times. The F427 was on my 390 fastback (long gone) and the RPM I have as a backup for my 3x2 setup. I think you will really like the F427 though. G.
Sounds to me like he needs a bigger carb too. That 600 just ain't enough, even with a Performer RPM or the better ( in my opinion) F427 Needs at least a 750. My 331 stroker likes the 750 cfm's worth of three Holley 250 cfm 2 bbls.
