Angry New 6.0 powerstroke owner with 2005 problems

Hi everyone....I figured i'd give this a try since Ford can't fix my brand new 2005 F350 Lariat 6.0 diesel pickup....Problems started at 300 miles...This is very wierd, When the truck is on a steep hill idling ,it starts to smoke, white and blue, thick as hell, so smoky i can't see the cars behind me...As soon as i start moving and the truck is on level ground it clears up and runs fine except i smell a rich diesel smell.

I brought it back to the ford dealer and they said No errors in the computer system and everything looks fine....They did a computer upgrade flash....anyway

Today i noticed it again except it was worse..@ 1130 miles....But only happens when on a steep hill idling .... Oil level is ok.....but the MPG gauge went haywire today...it showed readings of 99.9 mpg....Yeah right!!!!

Any input would be greatly appreciated.....Jay

First welcome to FTE....

Sorry to hear of your bad experiences.

The issue you are having seems like a sticky one.
Do you use a fuel addative? it may be worth a try, I would suggest it would be crappy fuel.
Do you purchase your fuel from one source?
Someone else may be able to assist further, but from the info you have provided sounds like fuel...

Was the truck nose down or up the hill ? Do you think it is on enough of an incline the engine oil is being picked up by the crank ? Just a thought if you put the truck on enough of an angle, the oil will stay level getting high enough to touch the crank. Or possibly holding up in the heads being picked up by a breather hose ?
The MPG gauge is probably based off the intake manifold vaccum/pressure sensor, if the truck is not running right.
Just my 2 cent thought.

Uphill, slight to moderate slope, smoking starts immediately, heavy thick smoke...I'm going to check and make sure the oil isn't overfilled...If it is ...the dealer overfilled it..

Thanks for the reply

If you stop and turn off the engine and restart does it quit.

could this possibly be not enuf oil? Remember I put 13 quarts in my PSD and it smoked horribly on startup. I added a quart or so to it and runs like a champ now.

Another question..When idling in park....If i rev the engine the turbo boost gauge doesn't move....Is this normal??? It only moves when the truck is moving....

you should have about 6 psi of boost if you rev it to about 3500 or 4000

Ok , i checked the oil level ( engine cold) It was about an 1/8 of an inch over the max on the dipstick..I drained 1 and 3/4 quarts from the engine...The dipstick showed between max and min.....When i started the truck the noise level was alot less...Happy about that...I'll see what happens now about the smoking problem while on a steep hill.....

The oil that i drained did have a slight diesel smell to it....

Thanks

Hi it is half way between min. and max on the stick...now get this....Startup engine cold was alot quieter than ever before...and now it smokes when the truck is on level ground BUT not as much as before.....I also noticed when i drained the oil it had a diesel smell to it...which evaporated quickly while in the pan.....

The truck was even quieter after warm up ..What i mean by quieter is smoother rattling...not as uneven when the oil was overfilled....

I recieved a call today from the Ford Plant in Kentucky wondering how i'm enjoying my new f350...I find this strange...They said its normal practice to call ford diesel owners.
Well yes i told him the whole story with my smoking problem....at such a young age of my new truck..Well he did say..THE NEW IMPROVED 2005 6.0 POWERSTROKES AREN'T SUPPOSD TO SMOKE EVEN WHEN BREAKING IN.....He said he'll get back to me...

What happens from here who knows....What timing!!!!!
